Music in the Hunter

“Australia’s most intimate chamber music festival”

Sponsored by Constable Estate   |   Resident Artists: Goldner String Quartet

Venue: Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens

Address: Cnr Broke and McDonalds Rds, Pokolbin NSW 2320

Welcome to Music in the Hunter 2015!

In its 20th anniversary year, the Goldner String Quartet is in fine form. As usual, they will perform some masterworks, including the incomparable late quartet Op. 132 by Beethoven.

Brilliant pianist, composer, and long-time colleague of the Goldner’s, Ian Munro, will make a welcome return to the festival. Ian is a remarkable performer who brings special insights through his deep understanding of musical structure, coupled with an intimate knowledge of the compositional process. He will join the quartet in various works, including Beethoven’s Ghost Trio and Elgar’s superb piano quintet.

Australia’s best-loved mezzo-soprano, Fiona Campbell, will make her debut at the festival. In addition to her wonderful voice, she has a stage presence par excellence and amazing versatility. She will sing Schubert Lieder, and songs by Brahms, Dowland, Purcell and others.

Pre-concert speaker Ken Healey returns to enlighten the audience in his inimitable fashion.

As an optional addition to MITH 2015, there will be a talk by Dr John Barnes on Art and Music followed by lunch, on Friday 18 September, 11am at the C House. Dr Barnes is the director of Cessnock Regional Art Gallery and was former director of Newcastle Art Spaces. His talk will encompass art, music and great composers.

Please join us for a weekend of fine music and warm companionship with our signature food and wine to complete the experience.
